GPAccess
A Unique collaboration delivers mobile medical record access
GPAccess – which gives doctors access to medical records via many mobile devices including appropriately enabled laptops, PDA and mobiles – it is one of the most exciting recent examples of interoperability to hit the healthcare market.
The service relies on close co-operation between two companies – EMIS and PAERS – to ensure the seamless delivery of the end product to customers.
PAERS’ role has been to process the patient record data from EMIS clinical systems to ensure it is suitable for mobile devices. PAERS has also ensured GPAccess can be integrated with the EMIS electronic knowledge support system, Mentor.
The system uses token and password based login which is stronger than most internet banking web sites. The electronic token creates a unique multi-digit number each time the GP logs on.
Each partner has examined and implemented various methods of maintaining maximum security, enabling GPAccess to be a safe and secure system. It provides customers with the best possible IT systems and services to support patient care. Examples of use include during home or nursing home visits.
The service harnesses the power of the internet to view any patient record in real time whilst away from the surgery. GPAccess enables GPs to view any of their patients’ records, primarily on a read-only basis. The revolutionary technology represents the next level of electronic access to patient records, providing vital patient information to GPs in an instant, wherever they are.
Immediate access to unlimited patient records
GP Access provides access to an unlimited number of up-to-the-minute electronic patient records, without requiring record downloads or synchronisation. The innovative system can prepare GPs for both planned and unexpected consultations, whenever and wherever. It is particularly useful during school and nursing home visits where unplanned patient consults are more common.
GP Access aims to significantly improve safety for patients and make doctors lives a lot easier. A recent survey of 500 GPs revealed that nearly 90 per cent were interested in having read-only access service to patient records while out of the surgery.
Future developments for GP Access will enable GPs to book appointments and make changes to records.
Strong authentication
GP Access uses powerful encryption and strong authentication to ensure the system is safe and secure. Strong authentication creates a unique multi-digit number every time a GP logs in and provides secure encrypted web access, the strongest level of web authentication there is.
EMIS GPs using GP Access can access their practice database, view any of their patients’ records and be confident that the system and all electronic patient record data is secure.
